America’s Pop Collector

Robert C. Scull – Art at Auction

October 26, 2013 - 2 PM

Join us on the final day of Consigned for Auction, Part 1, for a rare screening of America’s Pop Collector: Robert C. Scull – Art at Auction, directed by John Schott and E. J. Vaughn.  This 1974 documentary chronicles the historic sale of New York taxi tycoon Robert C. Scull’s private collection of contemporary art. The sale of these works, held at Sotheby Parke Bennet in New York in 1973, resulted in a dramatic price increase for works by living artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. However, the sale drew large protests from artists, angered by the huge profits made by Scull, at their expense.
